Update from League Manager

5 May

Hi Everyone from the “Tamaki League” Under 6 to Under 9 Grade teams,

I am sure that everyone is looking forward to the official start of the season on Saturday, with the later than usual start to the season this year.

Unfortunately, there are an odd number of teams in each of the Under 6 and Under 8 grades this year, so there will be one team from each of those grades who will be having a bye each week during the grading round and therefore the two teams that have a bye this Saturday will have to wait another week for their season to start.

There will be a grading round for each of the Under 6, Under 7 and Under 8 grades with the Under 6 and Under 8 grades having five weeks of grading and the Under 7 grade having seven weeks of grading.

For the grading round, the teams in the Under 6 and Under 8 grades have been split into three groups Red, Black and White and the teams who are in the Under 6 White group and the Under 8 Red Group are the ones who will be having a bye during the grading round as they are the groups with the odd number of teams.

The teams in the Under 7 grade have been split into two groups of eight teams, the Under 7 Red Group and the Under 7 Black Group.

Under 9’s have eight teams in their grade so they will just be playing against the other teams throughout the season, two full rounds against the other teams and then another round of however many weeks are left until the end of the season (subject to cancellations).

Under 6, 7 and 8 grade team coaches and managers will be sent a separate email to advise about recording the results from the grading round games. The Under 9 teams do not need to report their results.

The draws (fixtures) have been completed using a new software program for this year and the first round of games should be available to view on our new Tamaki League website now. There are already two rounds of games for the Under 9 grade and more games will be added to all grades once they have been checked to make sure there are no field double ups etc.

It is a new website dedicated to the Tamaki League which will contain all the relevant information about your games. The new website address is https://tamakileague.co.nz/

Each grade has a separate page that contains the information about their games.

As mentioned at the start of this message, there will be a bye (i.e. no game) for one team each week from the Under 6 Grade White Group and the Under 8 Red Group because there is an odd number of teams in each of those groups. The bye will be listed on the Tamaki League website once the other rounds have been added.

The field layout maps for the Under 6, Under 7 and Under 8 grades have been changed from last year and once the new picture of them is available it will be uploaded to the Tamaki League website. It is quite similar to last year but we have added a couple of extra fields on the main turf and renumbered the fields slightly in order to be able to fit all the games in and still have teams finishing at a reasonable time rather than having games kicking off at 11am which is what we would have needed to do if we left the field layout as it was.

The letters A, B, C, D and E included with your field number refer to which gate you should enter and exit the field by and the numbers 8 to 17 refer to the fields on the Main Part of the Turf. A is the gate for the training area of the turf and “T” refers to it being on the training area, so a game on field AT2 or AT3 is on the Training area.

Reminder only players, coaches, referees and managers are allowed on the artificial turf and you should if possible be wearing approved footwear for the turf (i.e. football boots with moulded soles or turf shoes) – no metal sprigs on the turf. All spectators should remain outside the fence and therefore no spectators are allowed in the dugouts either.

For Under 9’s please check out field layouts to see the pitch numbers for the lower fields.

Field 4 is a designated half field and therefore 4A and 4B are quarter fields.

Field 3 is a full-sized field with 3A and 3B being the halves and 3A1 (3A(i) on the map), 3A2, 3B1 and 3B2 being the quarter fields.

Please note that spectators on the grass fields should remain outside the perimeter on the main field. This is indicated by the yellow lines on the field layout map, but there are no yellow lines on the actual field although the full perimeter of the field is marked with white lines.

Standing outside the perimeter of the main field prevents damage to the field for the full-sized games that are played on it and is a general requirement at all football grounds in Auckland.

There is more information about the format of the games and other match day related information, which can be found on the Tamaki League website on this page. The information is what is normally handed out at the coaches and manager’s meeting and most teams who did not attend the meeting would have received a copy in their gear bag. There are also separate rules for the Under 9 grade on that page as well.

For those of you who haven't played any games at Michaels Ave before, there is a noticeboard with the game information and field layout maps on the office doors, so if you forget which field your game is on or aren't sure where your field is, you can always check on there on Saturday morning.

I hope you have an enjoyable season.
