2022 Tamaki League Season
Hi Everyone from the “Tamaki League” Under 6 to Under 9 Grade teams,
For those of you who are not already aware of it, “Tamaki League” is the name given to our in-house games for the Under 6 to Under 9 grade teams.
As you probably already know, the season is due to kick off on Saturday 7th May.
Unfortunately, there are an odd number of teams in the Under 9 grade this year, so there will be one team from that grade who will be having a bye each week and therefore the team that has a bye on the first week will have to wait another week for their season to start.
There will be a grading round for each of the Under 6, Under 7 and Under 8 grades with the Under 6 and Under 8 grades having seven weeks of grading and the Under 7 grade having five weeks of grading.
For the grading round, the teams in the Under 6 and Under 8 grades have been split into two groups Red and Black. The Under 6 groups have eight teams in each group so they will just play every other team in their group for the grading round.
However, the Under 8 Grade groups only have seven teams in each group, so they will also play every other team in their group, but they will also have a “Bye” week when there isn’t another team from their own group to play. They will still have a game on that “bye” week though because we have arranged it so that the two teams with the “bye” in each group will play against each other so instead of playing a team from your own group on your “bye” week you will play a team from the other group in a “cross pool” game. Therefore, when you see “bye” on the draw for your Under 8 team (and Under 9 girls only teams) please look further down the list to see the game that has been organised for you against the team from the other group.
The teams in the Under 7 grade have been split into three groups of six teams, the Under 7 Red Group, the Under 7 Black Group and the Under 7 White Group and they will also play each of the teams in their own group for their grading round.
Under 9’s have nine teams in their grade so they will just be playing against the other teams throughout the season, two full rounds against the other teams and two “bye” weeks as mentioned at the top plus one more week at the end of the season for another game to be organised (subject to cancellations).
Under 6, 7 and 8 grade team coaches and managers will be sent a separate email to advise about recording the results from the grading round games. The teams playing in the Under 9 grade do not need to report their results at all.
The draws (fixtures) have been completed using the software program that was introduced last year and the grading round games for the Under 6 to Under 8 grades and the two rounds of Under 9 grade games for the season should be available to view on the Tamaki League website now.
It is the website dedicated to the Tamaki League which was introduced last year and will contain all the relevant information about your games. The website address is https://tamakileague.co.nz/
Each grade has a separate page that contains the information about their games. This year the Under 6 Grade has been kindly sponsored by Grant Stephens|personalised mortgages Ltd

As mentioned at the start of this message, there will be a bye (i.e. no game) for one team each week from the Under 9 Grade because there is an odd number of teams in that grade. The bye will be listed on the Tamaki League website.
The field layout maps for the Under 6, Under 7 and Under 8 grades have been changed from last year back to how they were in 2020 and a copy of that field layout map can be found here https://ellersliefootball.org.nz/UFimage/6th_7th_8th_Grade_small.JPG on the main Ellerslie AFC website. It will also be uploaded to the Tamaki League website to replace the image that is currently there with last year’s field layouts.
The letters A, B, C, D and E included with your field number refer to which gate you should enter and exit the field by, and the numbers 8 to 15 refer to the fields on the Main Part of the Turf. A is the gate for the training area of the turf and “T” refers to it being on the training area, so a game on field AT2 or AT3 is on the Training area.
Reminder, only players, coaches, referees and managers are allowed on the artificial turf, and you should, if possible, be wearing approved footwear for the turf (i.e. football boots with moulded soles or turf shoes) – no metal sprigs on the turf. All spectators should remain outside the fence and therefore no spectators are allowed in the dugouts either regardless of whether it is raining or not. This is a link to the artificial turf rules for anyone who hasn’t seen them before or is wanting a reminder of them. https://ellersliefootball.org.nz/UFresource/Taking_care_of_our_turf.pdf
For Under 9’s this is a field layout map of the lower grass fields where your games will mainly be held:- https://ellersliefootball.org.nz/UFresource/Football_Lower_up_side_down2.pdf
Field 4 is a designated half field and therefore 4A and 4B are quarter fields.
Field 3 is a full-sized field with 3A and 3B being the halves and 3A1 (3A(i) on the map), 3A2, 3B1 and 3B2 being the quarter fields.
Please note that spectators on the grass fields should remain outside the perimeter on the main field. This is indicated by the yellow lines on the field layout map, but there are no yellow lines on the actual field although the full perimeter of the field is marked with white lines.
Standing outside the perimeter of the main field prevents damage to the field for the full-sized games that are played on it and is a general requirement at all football grounds in Auckland.
There is more information about the format of the games and other match day related information, which can be found on the Tamaki League website on this page. The information is what is normally handed out at the coaches and manager’s meeting and the few teams who did not attend the meeting would have received a copy in their gear bag. There are also separate rules for the Under 9 grade on that page as well. At present the page still has last year’s information so will be updated during the week, but the information from last year hasn’t changed much for this year so what is currently there will give you a fairly good idea in the meantime.
For those of you who haven't played any games at Michaels Ave before, there is a noticeboard with the game information and field layout maps on the office doors, so if you forget which field your game is on or aren't sure where your field is, you can always check on there on Saturday morning.
I hope you have an enjoyable season.
Lynnette
